uncontrolled, unrestrained in behav-iour. A folksy Americanism from the turn of the 20th century which is nor-mally heard in the form of 'go hog-wild' or 'run hog-wild'. (Hog is the standard American term for pig.) The term was immortalised as the title of a Laurel and Hardy short film in 1930.
